Our Family Summer Bucket List Ideas

Since Piper was so young last summer, there wasn’t much we could do together outside. But this summer is a whole different ball game! From the minute she wakes up until it’s time to go to bed, she says “outside” and points at the door constantly. It’s adorable except when it feels 110 degrees outside so I’m trying to get creative with our adventures. It’s my goal to do something new together every Friday morning during the summer and an activity as a family on Saturdays when Trent isn’t working.
As much as she loves to be outside, I know her fair, sensitive skin needs to be protected. I keep a box filled with sunscreen and bug spray near the backdoor so I won’t forget to apply it on both of us when we’re heading into the backyard. I even carry a bottle of Banana Boat Simply Protect Sensitive in my purse when we’re out and about. I love how the formula has 25% fewer ingredients so it’s gentle enough to use on her skin but unlike some super thick baby sunscreen, this is lightweight and easy to rub in so I can use it too!
Banana Boat Sunscreen’s have no added oils or fragrances plus they’re water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes! We’re typically in and out of the water or sweating at the park so this is a huge win for me.
I’ve made a list of things we can do outside and because Banana Boat stays on in 7 conditions – sun, pool water, ocean water, wind, sweat, sand and even 100-degree heat, we’ll be covered regardless of what adventure we’re on this summer!
Make homemade ice cream
Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup half and half
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Rainbow sprinkles
- 2 gallon sized resealable plastic bags
- 2 cups ice cubes
- 1/2 cup large crystal salt
Instructions:
- Pour cream, half and half, sugar, sprinkles and vanilla extract into a gallon sized resealable plastic bag. Seal well. Squish it around to combine until sugar is dissolved.
- Place ice cubes and salt into another gallon sized resealable plastic bag.
- Place the bag with the ice cream mixture into the bag with the ice. Seal the larger bag.
- Shake until mixture freezes, about 5 minutes.
Build a fairy garden
supplies:
- Large terracotta pot
- Soil
- Your favorite flowers
- Small bird house with opening (you can find these at a craft store)
- Acrylic paint and paint brushes
- rocks, marbles, moss and little figurines to give your garden some color.
Instructions:
- Allow your kiddo to help paint the bird house.
- Fill the pot with soil and plant the flowers while the paint is drying.
- Add rocks, marbles and moss to bring your fairy garden to life!
Pick flowers & decorate vases
Piper loves to pick flowers so I thought it would be fun to decorate little vases for the flowers to go in. You can use small mason jars or plastic cups and decorate with stickers or adhesive jewels or markers on the outside of the jar. Fill with water and put flowers inside. This also would make a great gift for grandma!

Inflatable Pool Toddler Activities
As soon as the weather went above 90 degrees in Houston it became pool season in our backyard! We use our inflatable pool pretty much every day and this lemon print pool from Bed Bath & Beyond is our summer favorite! I also found this amazing pink stripe umbrella to keep our pool out of the sun regardless of what time of day.
