Helping you celebrate every day colorfully. My mission? To make party-throwing a piece of cake!

Besides the weight gain and lower back issues, the biggest change I experienced while pregnant was with my hair. Before getting pregnant, I could go three days before my hair was too greasy all the dry shampoo in the world wouldn’t help. I’d consider this relatively normal and I only colored my hair twice a year.
I don’t think I realized how much my hair would change during pregnancy and postpartum. Towards the end of my first trimester, I could go at least five days between washing my hair and it was never greasy. I know this sounds like a dream come true but bear with me for a minute. Yes, I could go a week between washes but with this came terrible build up and scalp issues. I did a bunch of research to figure out what was going on and apparently sometimes the oil appears as large flakes due to all the crazy hormone changes. I tried every dandruff shampoo and hair mask, stopped using dry shampoo all together, rubbed salt and coconut oil on my scalp and even tried to wash my hair more frequently. Unfortunately, nothing really helped, and I was super self-conscious about it.
Hair loss and oily scalp are common during pregnancy, but there’s a chance they will go away after giving birth. Most women experience some form of hair fall or an increase in sebum production due to hormonal fluctuations that happen three months before childbirth begins (and continue) until it’s over with; however if these issues haven’t responded well enough by then you might need other solutions like shampoos designed especially for people suffering from unwanted greasy locks!
After I had Piper I thought my hair would return to normal but my postpartum hormones had a different plan. The greasiness returned, build up stayed and I started losing my hair by the handful. I refer to this as the terrible hair trifecta. As if being sleep deprived and keeping a baby alive wasn’t already enough, mother nature had to add in some other issues. I knew there wasn’t much I could do besides take vitamins for the hair loss but I was determined to find a remedy for the build up. I tried Pantene Charcoal Collection’s Shampoo and Conditioner and it improved my hair drastically! The activated charcoal inside both the shampoo and conditioner gently purifies by absorbing impurities, like magnetic attraction. The charcoal system includes a blend of pro-vitamin B5, activated charcoal and antioxidants. After a couple washes my scalp was clear and the build up was practically gone. I honestly couldn’t believe it! After all the crazy expensive treatments I tried, the most effective product was from the shampoo and conditioner brand I’ve used forever!
Now I’m able to go 3-4 days between washes and the charcoal helps remove the build up and styling products I use without drying out my hair or scalp. I can style my hair as I please without being worried about flakes. The product leaves the hair feeling refreshed and clean, with renewed body and shine. This is a huge confidence boost as I’m still trying to navigate through the unchartered waters of motherhood.
If you have hair or scalp issues like me, I highly recommend giving the Pantene Charcoal Collection line a try and please let me know what you think!
Thank you Pantene for partnering with me on this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
