One of my favorite aspects of our playroom upstairs is the built-in wet bar and mini-fridge. It’s so nice to be able to stock snacks and drinks up there for the girls so we don’t have to run downstairs every time they need something. Plus the set-up makes movie nights so fun! The only downside to the wet bar is that it didn’t match the fun colorful vibe of the rest of the playroom. I’m so excited to give the space an overhaul! This colorful playroom wet bar makeover might be my favorite home project yet!
The color scheme was inspired by the HGTV Home by Sherwin- Williams Color Pizzazz Color Collection available at Lowe’s. Each designer-curated Collection takes the guesswork out of choosing multiple colors. Last fall, I used the Softer Side Color Collection to inspire Lila’s nursery and I love how well the colors compliment each other! If you have a hard time creating color combinations, using a Color Collection makes it super easy!
For this playroom wet bar project, I used the Color Collection to guide my design decisions and I found the most perfect wallpaper to use instead of a backsplash. I wanted the area to coordinate with the rest of the playroom and this wallpaper helped tie the paint colors together.
We used HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams paint available at Lowe’s to transform the space into a fun snack bar perfect for a playroom! I chose HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams Reflecting Pool (HGSW2324) for the cabinets and I love the pop it adds! To save time I decided to only paint the outside of the cabinets and drawers then I updated the hardware to match the new look.
Once the cabinets were painted, I didn’t like how the brown granite clashed with the wallpaper so I decided to cover the granite with vinyl. The product is waterproof and a great budget-friendly alternative to replacing the countertops! The wet bar is in the playroom so I went with navy blue and I love how it turned out!
Wipe down the surface with a microfiber cloth. Then you’ll remove an inch of the vinyl from the backing and start on top of one side of the countertop and work your way over. I like to remove an inch or two of the backing at a time to avoid wrinkles then smooth out any air bubbles with the ruler.
To accessorize the space, I added baskets with snacks and stocked the new mini fridge with all our favorites to make playtime and movie night more fun! What do you think of the colorful playroom wet bar makeover?! Let me know in the comments below!
