Helping you celebrate every day colorfully. My mission? To make party-throwing a piece of cake!

A few weeks ago I organized an intimate brunch with a few of my favorite blogger babes at Latitude Med Center Apartments. When I first toured the building, I was really amazed at how well the micro units were laid out. If you’re not familiar with the term micro unit, it’s an apartment with around 400 square feet. Latitude Med Center offers four different micro unit floor plans ranging from 331 – 505 square feet. I know that sounds small but both of the floor plans I toured seemed SO much larger than that. Every inch of the space is utilized to maximize efficiency and convenience, plus the tall ceilings and large windows make it feel so spacious.
Latitude is the first of its kind to offer these luxury micro units in Houston so we hosted a brunch around all things mini to celebrate! I’m sharing some of my favorite tips on how to host a party in a small space below, so keep reading!
A cleaned off credenza easily doubles as a perfect place to display all the food. I used a cake stand to create height, a couple cute trays that could be styled on the coffee table or kitchen counter after the party and flowers on each side of the food to anchor the spread.
I love the round shelf above the kitchen table so I wanted to make it a focal point for the brunch. I always like to have something unexpected as a conversation piece and this shelf definitely added a wow factor! I removed the existing decor and wove greenery throughout and added bud vases with flowers. It was such an easy way to make a big impact!
I kept the menu simple with fun bite-sized brunch foods. Mini acai bowls, silver dollar-sized pancake stacks, yogurt parfait spoons, nutella crostinis topped with berries and small croissants provided the perfect mix of healthy and decadent. Nowadays so many people have dietary restrictions and I always try to be respectful of that when I’m entertaining. Ailee is a vegan and I knew she loved acai bowls so I kept those dairy free to make sure there was something she could really enjoy.
Not only is everything cuter when it’s mini, it’s also really easy to eat while socializing. I’m always a semi-homemade type of gal and prefer to spend my time making everything look cute versus hours in the kitchen. The pancakes were frozen so the prep time was minimal plus I didn’t have to worry about making them in perfect circles. I let them thaw out on the counter then used a small skewer so the stacks were easy to pick up without additional utensils. I added a blueberry and a dollop of lemon curd to add a favor and avoid the mess of syrup. They were so good!
I purchased the mini croissants from Trader Joe’s so all I had to do is pop those in the oven before guests arrived. The little spoons with lemon greek yogurt, granola and raspberries might be my favorite of the whole spread. I set out a pitcher of coconut cold brew for the ladies to sip on and flights of bubbly cocktails at the table. Normally you need to pour champagne cocktails right before you serve so they stay extra bubbly, but I decided to use small glass jars with sealable lids so I could make them ahead of time. I shared a tutorial for my faux calligraphy here.
The Latitude Med Center Micro Unit is cozy but the layout is so open. To be honest, I was shocked when they told me the square footage because the high ceiling and large windows opening up to the balcony make it feel much bigger! I stationed the food on the other side of the space so guests were encouraged to come in and hang out instead of mingling in the kitchen. I always like to allow guests to help themselves to food and drinks to take the pressure off of eating right away.
Thank you Latitude Med Center for partnering with me on this post on how to host a part in a small space.
