“What are your favorite Instagram editing apps for your photos?” is one of the most popular questions I get asked about my Instagram. It only takes less than 2 seconds for someone to decide whether they want to follow you on social media. Creating a cohesive and consistent Instagram feed is one of the most important elements of growing your Instagram following. A beautiful and cohesive feed is what will attract more Instagram followers. Whether you are new to Instagram or have been in the Instagram game for a while, it’s never too late to change it.
Creating a cohesive Instagram feed will require a consistent editing technique to fit your brand and personal preference. One of the first things you will notice about my feed is that I edit my photos to be fun and bright. I generally use the same photo-editing apps in order to achieve this style. These are my 4 favorite photo-editing apps for Instagram.
I take a good percentage of my photos on my camera now, but when I’m traveling or out and about I use my iPhone. Using a combination of these four apps will turn any photo into a post worthy picture! Side note: When I am shooting with my camera I use Lightroom to edit and Ailee‘s presets – you can purchase here!
Afterlight is one of the most popular photo-editing apps. It’s packed with filters and textures that will help transform your photos. I mostly use the photo-editing tools to adjust the sharpness, brightness, contrast and the clarity of my images. When you increase the sharpness by +10 or so it makes the photo really crisp almost like it was taken with a fancy camera! Depending on the photo, I’ll brighten it up quite a bit here too, sometimes when you brighten the photo looks soft so you’ll need to adjust the contrast and clarity (only +5-10) to balance it out.
Have you ever taken a photo and realized that there was an object in the background that is distracting? This photo-editing app will remove any objects that you don’t want in your photos. It’s a much more convenient way to retouch an image than Photoshop. Even when I take photos on my camera I’ll use this app to clean them up. It also helps fix lines similar to seams in the artificial grass in the photo below!
I use the Skies Over filter pack by Jeff Mindell a lot to add some color to the sky for scenery shots. It makes a huge difference! The Candy Minimal pack is great too but just make sure to only apply it slightly so it doesn’t distort the colors of the photo. I always want my photos to be bright and colorful but still realistic.
Snapseed is a great photo-editing app to remove shadows for flat lay shots. You can also brighten up the backdrop to give your objects that extra pop. You can see me using this app in action on my Brit + Co class, here!
Whether you use Instagram for business or personal purposes, developing a cohesive Instagram feed will attract a large following. One of the first steps to creating a consistent feed is choosing your own personal editing style. These apps have different capabilities to help you edit your photos to fit your own style.
Boomerang is an app that allows you to create short, looped videos which can be shared on the social media platform Instagram. Boomerang has just recently announced that it will be releasing a brand new feature called “Boomerang Videos”. This new feature will allow people to shoot ten-second long videos and then turn them into a Boomerang. The videos themselves won’t be able to be more than 10 seconds, but once the video has been turned into a Boomerang, you can share it all over Instagram with ease!
Hyperlapse is very much like Boomerang in the sense that it allows you to create short, looped videos. One big difference between Hyperlapse and Boomerang, however, is that Hyperlapse allows users to shoot long videos (up to 45 minutes at a time) whereas Boomerang only allows for shorter video shoots. Hyperlapse is a great tool for people who have a lot to say in a short amount of time, and it’s also great for capturing quick moments on the go.
Wondershare FilmoraGo is a video editing app that allows users to create 15 second videos which can then be uploaded to Instagram. The best thing about Wondershare FilmoraGo, however, is the fact that you are able to edit these 15-second clips after they have been uploaded to Instagram. This means that if you don’t like how your finished product came out, then you are able to go back into the app and make changes.
