Helping you celebrate every day colorfully. My mission? To make party-throwing a piece of cake!

My parents gave Piper a playhouse for her birthday in December and it’s easily our most used toy! There are so many cute playhouse makeovers out there but I knew I wanted one with good bones vs. a complete blank slate. Kid Kraft Toys came out with a Target exclusive playhouse with a little bit of a coastal feel and the second I saw it, I was obsessed! The house could absolutely be left as is but I wanted to add a few touches to make it our own!
We have a little more to add to the house but I’ve received a lot of questions about my stories so hopefully this playhouse makeover post helps!
After some trial and error, I went with plastic organizational boxes from Target. The holes allow water to drain when we have a heavy rain storm. I used two medium size nails to secure the boxes centered underneath the windows of the house.
Let’s talk about the flowers! When I first added the flower boxes I added some silk flowers I had on hand. Big mistake! With the humidity in Houston, the flowers and leaves were moldy and dirty after a few weeks. I found plastic daisy bunches on Amazon so I decided to give them a shot even though the pictures were a little iffy. The flowers are meant for outdoor use and they have greenery added to the bunches so they have a wildflower look to them. I used 3 bunches in each flower box!
My mom is wonderful with a sewing machine so I asked her to create an awning for the house. It came with a short blue one but it accidentally was thrown away when putting the house together.
We followed this basic tutorial to create the awning. I asked her to add a scallop trim to the bottom but other than that, the tutorial is pretty spot on. She sprayed the awning with a fabric guard to protect against the sun, rain, etc!
We removed the small wooden window sill and replaced it with a larger piece my brother in law cut for me. Then I sprayed with white outdoor paint and we reattached to the house! This provides a large play area for Piper to put her toys.
I added a bird house from Home Goods and hanging plant from Target to the hooks on the awning. I’m still not 100% on how this looks but she loves it and it works for now!
I’m going to add a couple stools to but haven’t made it to IKEA since quarantine!
We took the door off it’s hinges and painted it pink. We also added a brass bell next to the door and Piper is pretty obsessed with it. If I had a dollar for every time the bell is rung a day..ha!
